Birthday 2010 was not my favorite. At all. It ended up in some twisted version of 16 Candles and I never want it to happen again. When we went to bed Thursday night Android and I were fighting. Friday morning, which was my birthday, he completely ignored me. He took me to work and did not even say have a good day. My assumption was that he was still mad from the night before. So the longer I thought about it at work the madder I got. Combine my issues with the fact my dad never bothers to call me and that I miss my mom so much on my birthday-- I was practically in tears all day and wanted to stab people in the throat with a pencil. I am by no means a Pretty Pretty Princess on my birthday but I still want to be thought of. So finally Android picks me up at 5 and is all Surprise Surprise! Happy Birthday! Of course my response is What. The Fuck. Is.Wrong.With.You?? After about 2 hrs and nearly a pack of cigarettes I think we sorted most of the crap out. I’m still a bit salty about all of it. Most of that is, though, my birthday makes me crazy on a good day.

We then went to The Journey. This is about as good as sushi in Indiana can get. I know. Even the thought is gross. This place is really good though. It’s basically like the buffets in Las Vegas. Plus they have a chocolate fountain and you really cannot go wrong with that. These are not my pictures but you get the idea.

He then gave me 4 cupcakes from The Flying Cupcake. Which is one of my favorite treats in the world. These were the Dreamsicle ones. Perfect.

Finally-he gave me this….

It’s the Enterprise as a PIZZA CUTTER!! I have no intentions to actually use it. But even though I was mad at him it just proves he does know me preeetty well. The rest of the weekend we just putzed around and watched a bunch of Tales From the Darkside. Which reminds me so much of living with my grandmother. Not because she was haunted or anything. She lived on a farm that looked a lot like the one on the opening of TF the D!

This part may reinforce how obnoxious I truly am. I am really sick of how lazy things like Facebook/ Twitter have made people. Who the fuck says happy birthday to someone they care about on Facebook rather than A)either actually calling them or B)sending a card. This infuriates me. And I will tell you why—Unless I am really broke (as I have been since May) I go out of my fucking way to do thoughtful things for people. Even when I do not have money I try to DO something for the person. It may not be Martha Perfect but I fucking think enough of the people I care about (And honestly a few I really do not care about but they have no one else that does things for them.) to find something that is for them in particular. Maybe no one else can say this freely—I like when people think of me and it does matter. You never, ever get to too old for that. And it’s not just a birthday thing. In general, it truly flatters me when people pay enough attention to do silly things for me. I value that. I like doing it for others. Needless to say-I really got my feelings hurt by a lot of people this year. To the point where I am really re-evaluating how freely I do things for people. Android asked me if I do things for people b/c I want them to do back for me. No. I truly enjoy doing things like that. I just feel like people do not stop to think of one another like that anymore.

So that is the end of my rant on that. Now it is Monday and just being grateful that I have a job. Our car is leaking radiator fluid and I am not looking forward to dealing with that at all. It has gotten really chilly though so I am super happy that it is finally tights weather. I just want to live in Twin Peaks and call it a day.

The Cure - Just Like Heaven

On this day 5 yrs ago I had a date. A date, wherein upon appx 20 minutes before this date I hid in my friend Katie's appt (she was in Paris on her honeymoon--I had keys to feed her cat)talking on IM to my BFF Andrew about how I was avoiding this date. I do not know why other than that I was going through a phase in regards to males. Actually a phase in regards to myself. Anyway. Andrew told me to go and that I could not hide and just talk to him. Uhm, yes I can. So true to my instincts I put on a ton of black eyeliner and red lipstick. I then went down to my apt and buzzed the date in.

We went to a pub in my neighborhood called English Ivy's. It's a Family establishment--so I had plenty of gay boys for back up if the date got of hand. At the end of the date he started to get his card out of wallet--only to realize he had not put the card back in his wallet from some other purchase. Awkward. I then paid. My friend Jason (also a neighbor) was wait staff so we stopped and visited with him for a bit. We then walked back to my apartment. The conversation was stilted and odd. Later as we were hanging out in my apartment (the date kept insisting I was a feminist b/c I had various copies of Bust magazine and "a lot of books"-This annoyed me to no end at the time.) As I was leaning out the window smoking a cigarette Jason came up the walk from work. He asked if I was still with the date. I said yes and asked him to stop by. Jason, for some reason I still do not know, starts talking about S/M sex and spanking. The date made the unfortunate mistake of asking questions. Jason runs up to his apartment and brings back all these sex toys, whips, paddles etc. The date was all what do you do with this, etc--So Jason then starts spanking my date. I was near a heart attack. But rather than stop the fact that things had turned into some sort of fucked up David Lynch film I smoked more and made hot tea.

I never would have suspected 5 yrs ago but that was the very first date with the guy who then turned into my husband. Our hearts are not easy and this relationship has required more work than I ever expected. We're here now, though. I know, no matter what happens, I have learned the best lessons in life both with and from him.

(Ha. Notice my shirt matches the music! And it's from an actual show--not Hot Topic!)
(And no labret piercing jokes. I had mine before it was too cool for school!)

So my husband has decided to go back to school. This makes me very nervous. The last time we starred in this movie it was chaos and we almost did not make it. I know we are different people and more established now. I would support him in whatever he wants to do. That does not mean the crazy is not creeping around my edges. My plan was once he got a lab rotation somewhere I was going to Massachusetts and Rhode Island for a vacation. I do not think that will happen. So no beach for me. I'm bummed about this. Mostly because I just wanted to get away from the drama of his family for a bit. And I really really need the ocean.

Cookies I made for Principal's Day. No one ate them b/c they thought they looked "odd"...kinda like me I suppose. They taste like spritz cookies.

I took this of Andy. He reminds me of Huck Finn or something equally hillybilly-ish.

So far Easter has been less then thrilling. One of the teachers at work made me some kugel and brisket which was awesome. Not as good as my grandma's...but nothing is. It's weird no matter how old I get Passover/Easter still gives me the creeps. I mean there are a few differences between Jewish Passover and Christian Easter. Zombie Jesus being the number one of course. I've never understood coloring eggs or egg hunts. I know I went to a few with non-Jewish friends when I was younger. I've just always been disurbed by all the lamb's blood references in regards to Easter. Since I married Andy most of the holidays I've celebrated have been of Christian tradition. They don't ignore the Jewish side but it makes me think about all the traditions I've either forgotten or never really understood about being Jewish.

So that is all for today.

Poodle School Drop Out

I did forget to mention one pleasant thing during my battle with the flu this weekend.

I had to pick MiMi up from the groomer's (Janna's Doogie Do's And Kittie's Too!)only to find that she was still a shaggy mess. Not only that but she was in a crate away from the other dogs. Apparently her normal groomer wasn't there so she started terrorizing the poor woman trying to do it. So now this dog looks tore up and I doubt we'll be able to go back to that groomer.

After swimming tonight I came home to a bed with fresh linens and breadsticks. There is a trade, though. I have a seriously grumpy husband who I am close to cramming a bowling pin up his nose. Some day I will be Dr and Mrs...some day. Just be patient grasshopper.

Funny? Valentine?

This was a Valentine's Day Cooking Project: Asparagus and Artichoke Quiche!

Andy made this crust from scratch so it was very yum. It would have been more artihokey but I kept eating them out of the can.

We are going to a Hindu Meet-Up tonight. It's at the former Udupi Cafe. I don't know the new name. You should go! Even if you don't eat you get free chai! I told Andy I will be new Indian husband shopping. He didn't laugh. But I'm pretty sure he'd ship me to India with the first offer he got.

Also. I took Emilio to the eye doc today. Guess what they had? A Starbucks in the lobby! This immediately made me think of the Lewis Black (<3) Starbucks rant. Sadly it didn't prompt a rant from Emilio. The new Spanish hip-hop CD he got seems to have lulled him.

Plus I didn't realize there was so much stuff over by Emerson and County Line Road.

I think I need to be on the Clean House show as an advisor.
I'm pretty sure I'd make a great assistant for:
